New Songs Added - 2/26/07

This week I have added a bonus track from Elliott Yamin's new album, a demo song by Clay Aiken from before he appeared on American Idol and a track from Canadian Idol Ryan Malcolm's first album.

Elliott Yamin's first album, "Elliott Yamin," dropped this week and so far seems to be selling well. There is a plethora of bonus tracks available from various outlets. This week I chose the acoustic version of "Trainwreck" that is available at Wal-Mart. Here is a list of what is available:

Target:
Let Your Heart Lead
I'll Make You Dance

Itunes:
Whiter Shade Of Pale
In Love With You Forever

American Idol site:
Believe

Yahoo:
Sharing The Night

Rhapsody:
Sign Your Name

Wal-Mart:
Trainwreck (acoustic)
A Song For You (full band)

"I'm Not Supposed To Love You Anymore" is one of my favorite tracks from Clay Aiken's demo CD, "Look What Love Has Done."

Ryan Malcolm was the first winner from Canadian Idol and his band, Low Level Flight, has just released a new album this week called "Urgency."

Our independent artist choice this week is "Baby's Lullaby" by the group EverBlue. This is what they have to say about themselves:
Not just another band from L.A., with the release of their debut CD, formidable rock group EverBlue, is about to set the music industry spinning on its ear. Described as, "A sexy, soulful and emotion filled blend of passionate singing, masterful musicianship, and memorable songwriting," EverBlue is creating a big buzz amongst the music community with their special brand of bluesy rock and roll. It's not easy to find a band as genuine as EverBlue in popular culture these days when considering all the carefully scripted rises to glory and the falls that inevitably follow careers built on hype. This California-based band is poised to go from zero to sixty by virtue of a combination of finger-on-the-pulse songs, powerful live performances and new metropolitan adult pop sound.
I have also included a very nice song, "So Not Over You", by Simply Red that is currently climbing the radio charts. And for old times sake I have included tunes by Foreigner, Talking Heads, The Beatles and The Police.

Don't forget to vote for your favorites and feel free to leave a comment here on the blog if you have any suggestions or opinions you would like to share!

New Songs Added - 3/20/07

This week, for the American Idol alumni selections, I have picked tracks by Bo Bice, Elliott Yamin, Fantasia and Katharine McPhee as well as another track by Kurt Nilsen from Norwegian Idol.

For Bo Bice I have selected "Valley of Angels" which is the only song on his debut album, "The Real Thing," that was written by Bo. Honestly, it is probably the best track on there. I sincerely hope that he is allowed to put more of his own music on his next CD. If you purchase the DualDisc, which I highly recommend, you will also get three extra songs that were written by Bo, "Cinnamon & Novocaine," "Sinner in a Sin" and "Whiskey, Women and Time"; as well as acoustic performances of "Changing for the Better," "Whisky, Women and Time," "Sinner in a Sin" and "Papillon."

For Elliott I have picked the first single, "Wait For You," from his upcoming album, "Elliott Yamin," which is due to be released on March 20, 2007. I have also chosen "When I See U" which is the new single by Fantasia as well as "Dangerous" from Katharine McPhee's album. "On My Mind" is from Kurt Nilsen's album "Part of Me."

I have also chosen the recent hit, "Streetcorner Symphony" by Rob Thomas as well as hits by Coldplay and John Legend.

For the nostalgic, I have picked "Don't Stand So Close To Me" by The Police and "Take It On The Run" by REO Speedwagon.

Have fun listening and don't forget to flag your favorites!

New Songs Added - 3/12/07

Spring is here along with some fresh tunes for Rose Radio. This week's choices from American Idol alumni are "Vehicle" by Bo Bice, "Excuses" by Jasmine Trias, "Appreciate" by LaToya London, and "Gallery" by Mario Vazquez.

Jasmine Trias was the third-place finalist on the third season of American Idol. She released two albums, one in the Philippines which went platinum and one in the United States which didn't do quite as well. Even though she never really made it big here in the U.S., she is a huge hit in the Philippines and won a number of awards there and in Hawaii.

LaToya London was the fourth-place finalist on the third season of American Idol. She released an album, "Love & Life" in September, 2005 which has sold approximately 55,000 copies. Since then she has parted ways with her label and is looking for a new record deal. She has been working in a number of stage productions and is currently looking forward to joining "The Color Purple" in Chicago on April 17 which is scheduled to run until mid-2008.

We have two tunes by independent artists on the list this week. "Super Wonderful" by Wil Deynes and "Johnny and the Numbers" by The Four Degrees.

I have also included "If It Wasn't For Your Love" by Heather Headley and tunes that are currently on the charts such as "I'll Wait For You" by Joe Nichols, "Save Room" by John Legend, and "Thinking About You" by Norah Jones.

And for old times sake I have added tracks by Eva Cassidy, Shaun Cassidy, The Kinks, The Who, Toto and a duet by Aaron Neville & Linda Ronstadt.

Happy listening!

New Royalty Rates for Internet Radio

Recently a new ruling was issued by the Copyright Royalty Board (CRB) that will significantly raise the royalty rates for the music played on internet radio. If the ruling stands, it will no doubt cause many stations like Rose Radio to close due to the exorbitant increase in costs of running these stations. If you would like to learn more about what is involved in this ruling and how it will impact the internet radio industry, please read - Save Internet Radio: New Royalty Rates Threaten Small and Large Webcasters and Help Internet Radio Avoid Extinction.

New Songs Added - 3/5/07

This week on Rose Radio I have selected quite a few tracks from people who have been contestants on American Idol. I thought it would be interesting to give a little background on some of them this week.

Ayla Brown was a top 24 contestant in season 5 who didn't quite make it into the top 12. However, she hasn't given up on a music career. So, in addition to her accomplishments in basketball, she managed to produce and release last October her album, Forward. I have been playing her first single, Forward, but decided this week to switch it out with the track Know You Better.

Charles Grigsby was a top 12 contestant from season 2. Not much has been heard from him since he was on American Idol, but he did release an album in 2005.

Bo Bice was runner-up to Carrie Underwood in season 4 and went gold with his album The Real Thing and is currently working on a new album and is on the soundtrack for the new movie, Blades of Glory. The two tracks that I have on the playlist are actually from the album Recipe for Flavor that Bo produced in 2000... long before he was on American Idol.

Another artist with a pre-Idol album is Vonzell Solomon from season 4. The track that I have added this week is from her album My Struggle that she released in 2004. She is planning on releasing a new album this year.

Some of the other Idol tracks added this week are singles by Camile Velasco and Elliott Yamin; tracks from albums by John Stevens and LaToya London; and a track by Jessica Sierra from the American Idol 4 album.

The independent artist selection this week is Awake by Matt Beal from his album, Contributions For An Atom Bomb.

The playlist was rounded out this week with tracks by Foghat, George Harrison, Harry Chapin, John Denver, Kenny Rogers and Ray Charles.

Enjoy!
